I didn’t know much about him until my husband mentioned the museum, and then our daughter started watching the show and slowly became a big fan. Since Fukuoka was on our itinerary, visiting Anpanman Museum Fukuoka was an easy decision! The museum brings the beloved character to life with colorful play areas, themed exhibits, and interactive experiences that kids can truly enjoy.
But is it really worth a stop on a family trip? Let’s break down what the museum offers, the best ages to visit, and whether the cost is justified. Our daughter absolutely loved exploring the vibrant exhibits and shopping! Traveling with kids can be challenging, but this museum makes it easy for them to play, explore, and just have fun while parents can relax and enjoy watching them.

How To Get There
Getting to the museum is simple, even with little ones:
By Train: Take the JR Kagoshima Main Line to Fukuoka (Hakata) Station, then transfer to the Fukuoka City Subway if needed. The museum is just usually a short walk from the nearest station -the museum is located in central Fukuoka, inside Riverain Mall, making it easy to visit with kids.
For our trip, we stayed at Tokyu Stay Fukuoka-Tenjin, and it was an easy, quick walk to the museum — very convenient for families!
What’s Inside
Stepping into Anpanman Museum Fukuoka is like walking into the show itself - from the outside of the building through the elevators. Bright colors, cheerful displays, and life-sized characters immediately grab kids’ attention — and we were lucky enough to see Anpanman waving as we arrived!
Inside, kids can explore interactive play zones, meet their favorite characters for photos, catch mini shows, and enjoy themed snacks at the café. The gift shop is filled with fun, exclusive merchandise, perfect for little souvenirs.
There’s plenty to keep kids entertained, and the hands-on exhibits let them play, explore, and fully immerse themselves in the Anpanman world while parents can relax and watch the fun unfold.
Best Ages
Anpanman Museum Fukuoka is really made for little kids who love to explore and play. Younger children will be thrilled climbing, running around, and meeting their favorite characters, while slightly older kids can still enjoy the shows and themed areas — though their attention might wander a bit.
For older children or adults who aren’t familiar with Anpanman, it might not hold their interest as much. Honestly, the real fun comes from watching the little ones immerse themselves in the colorful exhibits and interactive play areas.
Time Needed
We spent about 2–3 hours exploring the museum and browsing the gift shop, and that felt just right for our visit. That said, there’s enough to see and do that you could easily spend most of the day here if your kids are big fans and want to take their time with every exhibit and activity.
We started our visit on the 6th floor, where the character exhibits and Little town area are located. It was fun to explore, but we spent most of our time on the 5th floor. That’s where my daughter ran around the ball area, climbed through the Playground in the Clouds, and went down the slides again and again.
We also grabbed some snacks here and did most of our shopping at the museum’s shops. Of course, we didn’t miss the Anpanman Show — watching our daughter danced and engaged during the performance was one of the highlights of the day!
The museum has the cutest merchandise shops, with some items exclusive to Fukuoka, so they’re definitely worth exploring. My daughter was thrilled with all the pink Dokin-chan accessories, and she even got free nail painting — how adorable is that?
The show is in Japanese, but we had no trouble watching it. It was engaging and fun! We also picked up a customized apron for her, which she absolutely loved. It was such a fun way to take a little piece of Anpanman home with us!

It’s definitely worth a visit! My daughter had the best time here — her favorite museum in Japan so far. The museum is colorful, interactive, and full of opportunities for kids to play, explore, and meet their favorite characters. It’s a perfect indoor activity for rainy days, with plenty of photo opportunities and hands-on fun. Conveniently located near the city center, it’s easy to spend an hour or more exploring.
